New Interdisciplinary Master’s Programme in Migration Studies

A new Master’s Programme in Migration Studies at UWC will commence in 2024.

The programme is designed to offer students a comprehensive and integrated understanding of aspects and debates of migration and mobility from diverse disciplinary perspectives.

Coursework will cover the relevant concepts, theories and legislation associated with migration. The programme will also provide students with the knowledge of migration dynamics, processes, practices, and policies in the context of social transformation and development. Overall, the programme will equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to manage, critique and influence migration research, policies, programmes and practice within academia, business, government, and non-governmental sectors.

The Master’s Programme in Migration Studies will be completed in a period of at least 18 months. The programme requires passing six modules, of which five are compulsory. A total of 180 credit units are required to graduate from the programme. These comprise five coursework modules and a mini-thesis worth 60 credit units.

The courses will be delivered in block teaching on-campus and online distance learning with exciting partnerships with leading academics in the field. The programme will start in the 2024 Academic Year.

Admission requirements:

  • An applicant must be in possession of a four-year degree or an Honours degree in the area of social sciences (Anthropology, Development Studies, Economics, Education, History, Human Services, Law, Management, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, etc or cognate discipline).
  • An applicant should have at least two years of working or research experience in a relevant area.
  • Candidates could also be admitted into the program via the RPL process.
