Dr. Sean Sithole is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute for Social Development (ISD), University of the Western Cape (UWC). He holds PhD and Master’s Degrees in Development Studies from the University of the Western Cape (UWC). His recent work is on a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)-funded MiFOOD network research project on the interplay between the migration-food security nexus and the COVID-19 pandemic. He has participated in events and research related to migration, food security and population agendas with support from several organisations, including the Scalabrini Institute for Human Mobility in Africa (SIHMA), Statistics South Africa (Stats SA), United Nations agencies and the European Commission. Dr. Sithole is involved in post-graduate lecturing and supervision. His research interests include migration and urban food security nexus, mobile/digital remittances, and social media-migrant networks nexus.
